William W. Hastings
Principal
William Hastings is a Principal of HASTINGS Architecture and a native Nashvillian. Since joining HASTINGS in 1999, the firm has grown from a staff of 12 professionals to 100 with active projects in Nashville, Huntsville, Fort Lauderdale, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Boston. The firm’s diverse, award-winning portfolio includes workplace, mixed-use, hospitality, residential, cultural and academic projects. Through William’s leadership, HASTINGS has been recognized as the #3 architecture firm in the United States by ARCHITECT Magazine, the Journal of the American Institute of Architects, as well as #1 in Business.
William is an expert in zoning and land use issues and assists the firm’s clients in navigating complicated entitlements through neighborhood and governmental engagement. In 2003, he was appointed to the most active Design Review Board in the City of Nashville and continues to serve today. In 2010, he was appointed by the Chairman of the Planning Commission to serve on the Downtown Design Review Committee and after 13 year continues to serve the City of Nashville.
William was elected to the Board of the Nashville Downtown Partnership in 2007 and served as the Chairman of the Board from 2022-2023. Other past and present board positions include, Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum, Montgomery Bell Academy, Nashville Public Television (NPT), Downtown YMCA, YMCA Joe C. Davis Outdoor Center, McNeilly Center for Children and University of Tennessee Alumni Association.
William graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1990 and the University of Tennessee in 1994.
